Easter Couldn't be Complete Without an Emergency Vet Visit!!

Holidays with my family are ALWAYS fun and crazy!! When we get together we have such an awesomely fun time! Easter is always held at my house since there is so much room to roam. This Easter was a fantastic day, the weather was beautiful!! I don't think we have ever had that nice of an Easter!! So the family all spent the day playing with water balloons, riding 4 wheelers, taking walks, sitting outside and just having a nice relaxing time.....UNTIL.....The Hubby decided to do something.....

Hubby decided after watching our horses in the pasture up front that he wanted to move my Mom's yearling filly "Angel" to the back pasture to get her away from the boys who keep picking on her! So he grabs a rope halter and heads out to catch her, well that took just a couple of minutes but once she had that rope halter on she was a little ticked! We have always used a nylon halter on her so I don't know if the pressure points caught her off guard or she just simply wasn't having any of this...So they get her moving along and she's throwing a couple of fits along the way and finally he gets her moving steady and one of the other horses comes blasting in between the Hubby and Angel...Angel immediately rears up and flips over backwards smacking her head on the wooden post at the gate! Hubby gets her up and then I get the "UH-OH" look and a motion to come here so I knew then it must not be good if he wants me to come check it out. I get over there and I was shocked to see a hole in the side of her face! Not a large hole, maybe a couple of inches long but a pretty obvious bone exposure and break in there...UGHH!!! Seriously?! After an accident a couple of years ago with one of my former filly's Mya I was freaking out because I knew the dangers of cracked or broken bones if they get infected! So I call my SIL over to have a peek and see if she see's the same thing I do and yep she does :( So she immediately gets on the phone and calls the Vet for me. Our fantastic Vet allowed me to interrupt her Easter Day and came right out. I should mention that in the mean time we are all standing around waiting and my wonderful family pretty much all stayed till all was said and done! So during the wait the Hubby then decides he will move a round bale out for DD's horse so he has J drive it in while he feeds Krissy in another paddock...I said "not a good idea", I was just not having a good feeling after Angel's accident! So I am up with Angel and I let her roam around the paddock for a bit and then I realized that there was a section of the panels that Hubby had left open and Angel was headed straight for it! I didn't want to run after her, afraid I would spook her to a run so I hollered at my Uncle to block the opening so he did and all was well until we are standing there and he says "UHHH D's horse is out...UHHH Krissy is running around SHE'S OUT"!!!! It took me a minute to realize that yep sure enough she's out and running around like a little kid high on helium! SO I head towards her and she of course takes off towards the other horses then LUCKILY she seen that open panel and ran straight in there! WHEW!!! Hubby got her caught and put back, that could have been bad! Apparently J didn't realize it but the Hubby had opened the gate to let Krissy back in and when J drove out of her area he didn't shut the gate because he thought the Hubby was behind him and Krissy was still locked up...NOPE thought wrong! But no harm no foul, right?!

My SIL who is a Canon girl grabbed my Nikon D90 which is like a foreign language and took some great shots for me! So thank you "Canon Girl"!!

We got Angel doped up and rinsed the wound then she got her stitches and some shots. She is on an oral antibiotic as it didn't seem feasible to try and shoot her everyday with penicillin... So we are post day 3 and looking good! So far there has been minimal swelling so hopefully the bone heals well!

I was forwarned but still shocked!! Yes she is a filly LOL!!

OK FIRST THINGS FIRST....I WILL HOLD OPEN THE NAME GAME UNTIL FRIDAY NIGHT AT 11:30 PM!! THEN I WILL POST THE VOTING BOARD AND WE WILL START THE VOTING!! GOT SOME REALLY GREAT NAMES SO FAR!!!!!!!!!

OK so let me tell you a story.... When I first found this filly and decided I wanted to see more pictures of her the lady of the ranch went out and took more and sent them to me.. With a disclosure on them!! Yes she said "Even though the one picture looks like she has boy parts hanging down, it isn’t. She just has big boobies LOL"!! And I looked in the pictures and could kind of see something but no big deal really I couldn't SEE them or anything LOL!!

So Saturday after we finally got home and unloaded I was out taking pictures and I was sitting on my knees looking at her and I seen something...I thought to myself "what was that"?!?! So I got her turned again and OH BOY HOWDY she looks like a mama that just foaled that's how big her teats are!!! It even took me a minute to remember what I had been told then I just busted out laughing and fully understood what she was trying to tell me!!! So of course I'm going to show you!!

You might have to click on the picture to see since it's so dark!

Filly meet Boo the Cat!!

I tell ya we had quite the giggles when we got home on Saturday with this filly!! After she desperately tried to get in with the other horse and it wasn't working out for her she took to exploring her area's.. I sat out with her for a while then we decided to go ahead and feed and try to get her used to the feed.

So I got the pellet feed out first to try and get her to come sniff it and maybe just maybe try some?!?! Well it didn't take long for the barn kitty Boo to come out and start snooping...

So she continues to look around and slowly ever so slowly she'd bring in one more leg into the bucket!

So next thing I know the filly is sniffing the kitty's behind trying to figure out what the heck it is!! And Boo was sitting there almost to scared to look LOL!!

Finally the kitty looked and jumped straight up in the air!! And so did the filly LOL!!

Now the filly is following Boo the kitty trying to figure out what she is!!

So all of the sudden it's Winter here & I got my new Filly!!!

WOW!! That pretty much sums up the last few days here in my neck of the woods!! Seriously it's Fall, right?!?! Because Mother Nature must be confused giving us Winter weather these last few days! I don't know about you guys but our weather has been at the minimum 30 degree's colder than it normally is this time of year! So Saturday was the day!! The day to pick up my new filly! We had a late and cold night Friday with high school football and then we had to get up bright and early Saturday morning to make our 2 1/2 hr drive to get the filly. Which I really lucked out because the ranch that she comes from is actually about 6 1/2 - 7 hrs away but the owners had some weanlings in an annual sale in a city that put them only 2 1/2 hrs away!

So we left at 7:30 Saturday morning which I'm sure to most isn't to bad but for me it's kind of hard since I don't sleep much at night, but I was lucky enough to get to bed about 2:30 and I can manage on just a few hours of sleep! So we arrived at our destination at 10:00 am and finally got to see her in person! To some it might seem strange to purchase a horse I had never seen in person but I know these people and I have bought from them before. My black and white paint Rita comes from there and my 3 yr old filly Mya and my FIL's 2 yr old colt Jet both come out of the same sire. So let me tell you this girl is a beauty!! She was born in late June so she is just shy of being 4 months old and she is huge!! She was bigger than some of their 1 month olds when she was born LOL!!

So what is she you ask?! She is a red dun paint, she comes straight out of a pasture and has never seen people other than the few at the ranch she came from. She is not halter broke so that will be on our list to do. She is SUPER sweet!! Immediately after getting out of the trailer when we got back home she ran over to the other horses in the back pasture, she wanted so badly to be with them it was really kind of sad! She is in an area at the front of that pasture by the barn so none of the older ones will try to pick on her and then when we wean the other 2 weanlings we will put them with her. So she proceeded to introduce herself while gumming her mouth, it was so sweet! I LOVE foals they are just curious and unique and it's just so awesome to watch them learn new things!! Like this filly for instance has been on pasture with grass and the area she's in here she will get brome hay and alfalfa/wheat middlings pellets. So needless to say she is having to learn to eat this food! So far she has eaten the hay OK but she's not so sure about the pellets! She will go over and take a couple nibbles and walk away, I don't think it'll take her long to catch on though.

So today when I went out and spent some time with her (me all bundled up of course because it was 36 degree's) I just sat on a bucket and let her wander around and she would get real close to me then turn and walk away! Now if I have my camera up to my face then she gets REALLY curious!! Which for some strange reason all of my foals have done that LOL!! OK so enough talking let me show you her!!

OH and by the way I think we'll be playing the name game in the next couple of days because once again I'm dead to names LOL!! AND I have a couple of funny stories to share!! But I can't give all the goods in one post can I?!?!

Only sighting of the sun right as we left home..

The Three Stooges look in anticipation of what we're bringing in!!

Filly is a little scared to come out at first..

Then she just rocketed out of there LOL!!

Running straight to who she hopes are her friends!

Everyone has to get a sniff in..

Now she's trying to tell them "I mean no harm"!

And them....

The 2 geldings sniffing her out! She shares the same sire with the white/black paint here..

Now the mean head honcho Ebony has to lay down the law, while Curious Pete is still sniffing her!

Now she's feeling a bit froggy!!!

My pretty baby!!

And her other side!

Here's when she comes right up to my camera being curious :)

She's looking for the other horses to come back :(

I love how her paint markings cap her head!

Still looking.....And waiting....

First bite of Hay
