Some Updated Pics of my Favorite 4 Legged Friends!

The Winter season is not my friend...As much as I'd like to be on good terms with her I just can't...She makes my life miserable! EXCEPT for days like today when we were nearing 60*!! WHOO-HOO!!!

While DD was out exercising Krissy tonight I buzzed around and got some updated pics of some of my favorite 4 legged friends! I really LOVE them all! Unfortunately the Hubby and I have decided before to long we are going to sell them off...Again...I did this last year and parted with the ones I could bear to part with and still miss 2 of them dearly! But I finally have to agree with my honey on this, we simply do not have the time to give all of them the attention they need being up and coming riding horses. There are just a couple besides Krissy that I would like to keep but the rest will go bye-bye come Spring I think..

This is H.B. she's kind of new! We bought her about a month ago!

The Great Stud Escape~!

Most of you know why many horse people don't want to have stud horses on their property...Well I have a stud colt, 2 actually but one of them is two years old this year and he's proving to be a real handful lately...

Saturday morning the Hubby and I were getting ready to leave when I notice 2 of my "up front" pasture horses whinnying about something. Well I just assumed they were talking to my other horses in the back pasture as they often do. But then the Hubby says to me, "I've been watching them trying to figure out what they are so worked up about...Do you see Bubba"? ME: "NO...actually I don't...Where is he"?! Hubby: (pulling me out further from where I was standing) "Look over there"...And there he was...NOT in his pasture!! Nope he was all the way across the field standing next to Rita and Bella...Great just what I want to do! Chase around a hopeful stud! SO the Hubby instinctively goes straight and grabs a bucket of feed thinking he can shake it and Bubba will come running. UMMM...Excuse me?!?! HELLO!!! I DO NOT bribe my horses!!! So at this point I was a *teeny* bit irritated because he knows the rules and this is a big one!

So I head over and grab a halter (of course I grabbed my camera out of my truck on the way *giggles*) and head out there and proceed to tell the Hubby that he is not going to come for that feed we just need to halter him! So the Hubby takes the lead with the bucket of feed and heads out there, I'm hobbling along through the freshly turned under pasture in my flip flops trying to catch up! So finally Rita see's us and she starts heading to the front of her pasture and Bubba takes off along the fence chasing her. So they get stopped and the Hubby goes to walk up to Bubba and makes some comment about "he's being to antsy to halter because he has other things on his mind" So he plops the feed in front of him, I guess thinking this would get him to stand still?! But nope of course not because he just wants to be where Rita is! Hubby had luckily laid the halter on the ground so I scooped it up and walked right up to Bubba and haltered him...YEP...That simple Hubby...WHY oh WHY do they always have to make something bigger than it is?!

So I head off with Bubba but quickly handing him over to the Hubby because of my flip flop issue, I've had toes stepped on 1 to many times! Bubba was none to interested in going back to his pasture but we got him there and his friends were glad to have him back! He ran the fence line and whinnied for a couple of minutes then he just went on about his business. We never did find his escape route...We are assuming he just slipped through the wires after having stuck his head through because he does have silver rub marks at the top of his withers.

Needless to say he must go in soon to be cut!

Not Much Of This Around Here!

Being out here in the country I truly do forget all of the *annoying to me* noises that go on. For instance we were in the city the other night for my nephews Birthday party and some neighbors across the street were banging dents out of the trunk of their car! OH MY GOODNESS I thought I was going to go bonkers! They just kept on and on! I was reminded just how blessed I am with my peace and quiet here on the prairie...Maybe to much so?!

Another noise I have thankfully forgotten is airplanes! Nope we don't have them...Hardly ever! So I tend to forget that maybe some of my horses don't get desensitized to certain sounds then when we go somewhere and a certain noise pops up I always watch and wonder what they will do... The last time we had a "plane" fly over we ended up with a catastrophe on our hands! I posted about that here, early that morning we had a crop duster fertilizing a field next to our pasture and some of my horses just went nuts! Leading to shown injury! Luckily she healed just fine!

So needless to say the other morning when I heard the loud rumble of a crop duster over my house I ran outside (of course grabbing my camera first LOL)! And was so thankful to find all of my horses perfectly fine with this monster roaring over their heads! YAY!! Some of them are yearlings and have never heard a plane much less have one right over their head! I was one proud Momma!

You can see their horsey butts next to the barn there...

Eating away with not a care in the world!!

Krissy was hanging out in her house!

This evening we took DD over to a local arena to exercise Krissy some more before her rodeo debut tomorrow night and as she was riding across the field to the arena a train came blasting through about 200 yards from her train horns and all and she didn't even bat an eye! I was thrilled with that!

They Are Finally Gone!

For a few months now we have been selling off part of our herd. As hard as it has been to say goodbye to some of my favorite angels I am relieved to say they are all finally gone!! Of course I mean the ones we wanted gone! We still have 6 horses which is a very comfortable number for me!!

One of the horses I sold a few months ago but I have been boarding her until her new family could get boarding in town situated. Finally Sunday they showed to pick her up, however we weren't home... Of course I told them we wouldn't be home that evening but I guess they hoped to do it on their own. Well she is a 2 year old filly that has not been in a trailer since I brought her home at 4 months of age! They brought a slant load trailer which they did have the dividers open but she wasn't having it! J was the only one home and was calling me looking for words of wisdom I finally just told them we'd deliver her on Monday. So Monday after the Hubby got off work his brother came to help which I was thankful for since someone had to hold the camera! Me of course!! They got her loaded and I actually didn't get but a couple of pics cause I was trying to help with my 5 lb weight hanging from my neck!

Also gone from the ranch is the Hubby's dad's 3 yr old gelding. He is off to the trainers to be broke and I think dad will then keep him local near the town he lives in after the breaking is done and then has plans to sell him. It amazes me how you can have a horse in an environment with certain horses he is the bottom of the barrel but then he was moved to another group of our horses because of weaning the younger ones and he then decided that he was going to rule the roost! He couldn't be around his mama as he would try and nurse at his 3 years of age and she was put where he used to be so he was put with our 2 yr old and two yearlings, he was always being a brat to the boys! They would not stand up to him!! The yearling filly however did not hesitate to kick back when he'd mess with her! They always amaze me!

Jet staring a fight with the 2 yr old Bubba

Trying to bite his butt!

Now chasing my poor baby Stone! Who is obviously in total submission!

Nothing Like Good Old 4H Fun!!

Wednesday night marked our county's first 4H Horse Project meeting of the year! We were a little late in the year to be having our first meeting but it's been a transition to say the least! This year I have taken over as the Project Leader for the group and I have to say I have NO idea what I'm doing when it comes to running a group like this!! I did not grow up in 4H, I always wanted to join but it didn't really fit our lives as kids I guess.... So my kiddo's have been member's for many years now! All of this came about as my friend Cowboy S was the leader and really the man is stretched for time in every aspect of his life so that's where I came in! He is our "Superintendent" so he helps me with ideas and any questions I have, he really is a great asset to our kids so I am very glad he stayed on! In addition I also have a gal from our county but different club than ours, she called me a couple of months ago and offered to help so that has been AWESOME!! I totally love her! She is so much like me....Might get dangerous LOL! We have lots planned for the kiddo's but our first meeting was grooming. We decided to go with that as we weren't sure how many "horseless" kids we have so some of them may not know the basics. I was so thrilled that everyone signed up for the project was there!!

Cowboy S never passes a dare....Think he's a bit big for the pony?!

Our next meeting we will be covering trail riding and trail safety as our first outing we have planned is a ride to move some cattle across the Chickaskia River in May!! I am SO excited for this! I think it will be an absolute BLAST for the kiddo's!!

This was HILARIOUS!! We sent the girls to load up one of Cowboy S's horses and next thing we know it's taking all 4 of them to close the door LOL!! Best part is they already had the divider closed so PJ wasn't getting out!
